NEWS ALERT: Fishability Launch School Program in 2017

Commencing September 2017, Fishability are delivering school programs catering to primary and high school students from Perth metro and regional Education Support Centres.  With trained volunteers in First Aid and all certified with Working with Children Cards and Police Clearances, the school program will provide an opportunity for children to learn about their environment; recognise fish species; develop new skills and gain confidence.  The Fishability activities provide a holistic approach to learning with our volunteer mentors assisting students with fishing, modified equipment available and fully accessible locations.

For more enquiries, or to book an activity, contact di.cherylbruce@fish.wa.gov.au or Click here to view the Fishability School Poster.

Fishability

Fishability assists people requiring support to experience the joy of fishing by using purpose-built motorised rods, reels and fishing rod holders and providing:

  • Organised shore and jetty based fishing activities;
  • Our wheelchair accessible vessels – “Nev Thomas” and “Mistral” – for guided river, ocean and estuary fishing trips;
  • Advice on universally accessible fishing locations and facilities; and
  • Acts in an advocacy role in promoting inclusive participation in recreational fishing.

The type of fishing gear and level of assistance we provide is dependent on the individual abilities and expectation of the participant.
